Emerge Batch 3

Continuing the journey of empowerment

Our third batch brought together determined women who gained valuable skills, mentorship, and opportunities to move closer to their goals.

Kalpana

Kalpana is 18 years old and lives with her family in New Delhi. She dreams of opening her own restaurant someday. She is currently pursuing BA from Delhi University, and loves to cook, play games, dance, travel or watch TV in her free time. The Emerge program helped Kalpana in taking a step towards achieving her dreams through the financial aid provided as part of the program. She has also learnt about things like personal hygiene but most importantly it brought a can-do attitude in her, changing her from a person with self-doubt to someone who trusts herself to do anything, and everything. Through Emerge, she has gotten the confidence to be herself while learning more about being independent. She believes that Emerge is an opportunity that every girl should have. Now she is working with SKA Business & Corporate Solutions as part of their Visa Immigration team.

Harjeet Kaur

Extremely ambitious, friendly and socially skilled, Harjeet Kaur aims to be an IAS officer. Harjeet is 20 years old and lives in a family of six in Okhla, New Delhi. She enjoys eating, dancing and playing outdoor games. Emerge has helped Harjeet improve her English and computer skills. She believes herself to be lucky to have received this learning opportunity with Emerge where she got to learn to speak confidently, travel alone and even manage tour groups. Earlier her neighbors would raise their eyebrows when they saw her going out every day. But now, they see her growth and appreciate and support her learning. She is now working at Just Money Company call center.

Harjeet Kaur

Sonam Khan

Extremely creative and good with her hands, Sonam Khan has dreams of teaching others how to stitch. She lives in Okhla, New Delhi in a family of eight and loves stitching, eating, listening to songs, traveling, playing badminton and making mehendi designs. She is 20 years old and has recently completed her twelfth grade. Emerge helped Sonam in becoming more productive with her time, getting financial aid and improving her skills in English and Computers. She is now working as a data entry operator.

Kajal

Hard-working and determined, Kajal is a 19 year old pursuing B.Com Honors from Delhi University. She is a major foodie, loves dancing, enjoys watching WWE, and hopes to work in the banking sector. Emerge helped her receive financial aid and free of cost learning that improved her computer skills and gave her the freedom and confidence to travel independently. She became much more aware of herself, learnt not only from teachers but also from fellow students, and had a great experience overall. She believes that Emerge is a great program for girls as it helps them become more self-sufficient, confident and earn while learning. She is now working from home with the Forever company.

Kajal

Hard-working and determined, Kajal is a 19 year old pursuing B.Com Honors from Delhi University. She is a major foodie, loves dancing, enjoys watching WWE, and hopes to work in the banking sector. Emerge helped her receive financial aid and free of cost learning that improved her computer skills and gave her the freedom and confidence to travel independently. She became much more aware of herself, learnt not only from teachers but also from fellow students, and had a great experience overall. She believes that Emerge is a great program for girls as it helps them become more self-sufficient, confident and earn while learning. She is now working from home with the Forever company.

Sonam

Sonam, an energetic 19 year old, joined the Emerge fellowship to be more productive with her time. She is part of a family of six in Okhla, New Delhi and likes listening to songs, creating mehendi designs and dancing. Earlier, she wasn’t confident to speak in front of others. Her parents would worry wondering if she would be able to do anything in life. But at Emerge, she got the space to express herself freely, without any fear of judgment. As a result, she was able to talk and study more. She even polished her English communication skills and is able to appreciate and love herself. That has instilled confidence in her and also gave her the will to build a successful future for herself and her family. She is now doing her internship at Green Organic.

Annu

Annu, a 20 year old pursuing BA in Political Science from Delhi University, dreams of opening her own coaching center someday. From someone with no confidence to speak or share her opinions, she has become someone who is open about sharing her feelings and opinions. She is more confident about herself and going out alone. She has been able to win her family’s trust to let her do a job, or travel alone outside the city. Dedicated towards imparting knowledge and sharing what she learns, she has already taken the first step towards her dream by enrolling to be a teacher and Coordinator in the present Emerge batch of students. And we couldn’t be more proud of her!

Annu

Annu, a 20 year old pursuing BA in Political Science from Delhi University, dreams of opening her own coaching center someday. Jahida Sheikh

A 20 year old living in a family of six in Okhla, New Delhi, Jahida values her independence a lot. She loves to talk to others and read books. With Emerge, Jahida got the opportunity to not only learn for free but also support her family financially. She was able to improve her English and computer skills and learn about mobile phones, and is now often the in-demand person for her father to talk about phones. Being at Emerge helped her family to have trust in her, and eventually led her father to change his mindset about not allowing girls to step out of their homes. She is working with FilmArt.

Priyanka Kumari

Pursuing BBA from MDU in her third year, Priyanka Kumari lives in a family of six in Okhla, New Delhi. She is 21 years old and enjoys traveling and dancing. Priyanka enjoys talking to others and she is incredibly helpful towards those around her. She hopes to get into the banking industry and be rich enough to support her whole family. Emerge has helped Priyanka obtain the freedom to go out of her house and also helped her with financial aid and learning. She now has the confidence to speak in English, go out alone independently and feels grateful for the amazing learning opportunity that Emerge gave her. She is now doing her internship at FilmArt.

Rani Roy

A 19 year old girl who loves to laugh and make those around her laugh, Rani is originally from Bihar but now lives in Sanjay Colony, New Delhi in a family of four. She is currently pursuing BA from Delhi University. Rani enjoys dancing, acting, eating, traveling and playing badminton. Emerge has helped Rani improve her skills in Computer and English, and to gain some financial independence. Watching her develop into her new confident self, several of her neighbors also wanted to enroll their daughters in the Emerge program. Rani believes that Emerge has taught her so much that she can in turn share that knowledge with more people going forward. She is now working with SKA Business & Corporate Solutions.

Anjali

As someone who spoke less earlier, it was difficult for her to do anything on her own or travel alone. But at Emerge she got the space to speak with others, and was given equal opportunities to engage despite being a quiet person. She learnt a range of skills: from learning how to use Google calendar, to writing emails, drawing designs on Canva to adapting to new situations in life. And the best part is that she now feels confident to go alone anywhere, do any job she gets, without any hesitation.

Anjali Nimesh

Hard working and driven, Anjali is very punctual and determined regarding whatever she does. She is also very friendly and helpful to those around her,but she was not this person earlier. Apart from going to school, there was hardly anything she was interested in, or wanted to pursue. Her parents thought they would marry her off since she did not have the intent to do anything else in life. Things changed after she joined the Emerge fellowship program. It is here that Anjali got the space to make mistakes and learn. She was able to improve her English, learn computer skills, and do things independently. With the stipend she received from the program, she was also able to manage her expenses and save enough to buy a phone for herself. This gave her the confidence and motivation to be self-dependent. Now even her parents trust her to make a name for herself, and even cite her example to her younger brother.

Fiza

Twenty two year old Fiza lives in Okhla, New Delhi. She is pursuing BA from IGNOU, and likes to sing and play kabaddi during her free time. Emerge has not only brought changes in her but also in her family. Despite being from a conservative background, she was able to convince her father to be independent and do a job by herself. She has become much more self-aware, has learnt to think about her needs, and can communicate better in English. She even went on her first trip outside the city with other Emerge students. All this has made her confident about her skills and that she can find her own place in this world. She recommends Emerge as a great opportunity for girls to learn and grow.

Fiza

Priya

Priya is part of a family of seven and lives in Okhla, New Delhi, and is an incredibly talented artist. She enjoys theatre, reading and dancing; and wants to open an academy to teach dance to other students. Emerge has helped Priya improve her ability to talk to others, her command over English, her computer skills and has helped her financially as well. Her favorite session from Emerge was around self-love which has taught her to accept herself as she is. She absolutely loved going out every Saturday with other fellow students of Emerge, and as part of it learnt not only to travel alone but also manage and coordinate travelling in a group.
