Learning by Locals is a registered NGO that is situated in a low-income community in New Delhi’s industrial area, Okhla.
Learning by Locals is a registered NGO that is situated in a low-income community in New Delhi’s industrial area, Okhla. Started by Mr. Pradeep Kumar, founder of the travel company Delhi by Locals, the aim is to educate and empower today’s youth by helping to develop personal and professional skills and providing students with the right opportunities and guidance to achieve their goals. The teenage years can often feel incredibly confusing for young people.
The pressure to make decisions and take actions with long-lasting consequences makes the right guidance and support extremely critical in determining their future. Any student above the age of 14 who is looking for direction, learning through collaboration and a supportive path can be a part of Learning by Locals.
Currently, the centre in Sanjay Colony, Okhla conducts after-school classes for 400+ students. The objective is to help the learners hone their skills in various disciplines like English, computer science, theatre, music, photography, and many more.
Over the years, a safe space has been successfully created for the students to interact without hesitation and speak freely about their aspirations and reservations.
Similarly, a community of like-minded people has been created by collaborating with other non-government organisations locally and across India. This community provides constant support for the common goal of empowering our young people to dream big and achieve their goals.
Our Story
From Vision to Reality
The story of Learning by Locals is a story of empowering the youth through the transformative power of education.
The NGO was set up by Pradeep and Lalit, who had themselves been students of the NGO Manzil. Manzil offered them the right opportunities and support required to chase their dreams. Pradeep eventually got into the travel industry, while Lalit set off on his filmmaking journey. They both even studied in the U.S. and learnt about how students across the world benefit from a good education.
