Pradeep kumar is the person behind the vision of providing quality education to the students of the Sanjay colony. He himself suffered from the lack of qualitative education, after graduating from 12th grade, he did not know how to speak in English and faced difficulty while presenting himself in front of a group of people. So, he joined an NGO called Manzil, with the help of Manzil, he learned English and went on to work in the tourism industry. He also got the opportunity to study in the United States through the Community College Initiative Program scholarship, funded by the U.S Department of State. With all his learning, he aspires to help others, and the result is Learning by Locals. Pradeep is co- ounder and president.

Sangeeta joined Learning by Locals in 2021 as an English student, driven by a strong desire to grow and improve. My name is Sukhmani, and for the past five years, I have been working as a Center Head at Learning By Locals, an NGO in my community, Sanjay Colony. My journey with Learning By Locals began back in 2017, when I joined as a student. Soon after, I started volunteering, which eventually led me to teaching English—a role I still cherish deeply today alongside my current responsibilities. Working with children has always been my greatest joy. I love experimenting with new ways of learning and teaching, and every small success encourages me to grow further. Over the years, I have also discovered a wide range of hobbies that bring me peace and creativity—drawing, writing, calligraphy, photography, traveling, and reading books are just a few of the things that keep me inspired. In 2021, I was selected for the Community College Initiative (CCI) Program, which gave me the opportunity to enhance my leadership, cultural exchange, and professional skills. This experience was a turning point in my journey, strengthening my confidence, broadening my global perspective, and motivating me to contribute even more to my community. My journey as a teacher and mentor has truly shaped me, especially during the pandemic, when I actively contributed to supporting my community and guiding children through difficult times. Every role I’ve taken—whether as a student, volunteer, teacher, or mentor—has been a stepping stone in my growth. These experiences have not only strengthened my passion for the education sector but also deepened my commitment to making a lasting difference in the lives of others. I see myself as a lifelong learner, someone who is constantly evolving while uplifting those around me. Arti joined Learning by Locals in 2022 as an English student. Later, she became part of our Emerge Fellowship (Batch 4). During her fellowship, she started teaching children at her home, discovering her passion for being with kids and helping them learn. When we launched NEEV, our project for children aged 8 to 14 that focuses on strengthening their academic subjects, Arti’s dedication and love for teaching made her a perfect fit. After completing her Emerge Fellowship, she officially joined Learning by Locals as a NEEV team member. For the past two years, Arti has been working closely with NEEV students, and today, she manages the entire NEEV program, ensuring children receive quality guidance and support. She continues to enjoy spending time with kids and nurturing their learning journey.

In Neev, I not only focus on academics but also try to build students’ confidence, guide them in studies, and support them like a mentor. Many children hesitate in the beginning, but with encouragement and friendly teaching, I have seen them grow more active, confident, and curious. At the same time, I became a team member at Learning by Locals, which gave me the chance to work with others, share ideas, and learn leadership skills. Along with all of this, I continue my BA studies with dedication because I believe that learning never stops. From being a student, to a volunteer, to a home tutor, and now a teacher and team member, my journey has been full of growth.
