The English Program at Learning by Locals was launched in 2017 with a mission to equip youth with the communication and employability skills they need to thrive in today’s world. Many learners come to us with limited exposure to English, and this often impacts their confidence and opportunities. Our program serves as a bridge—helping students develop spoken English fluency while building self-belief, discipline, and life skills along the way.
The core objective of this program is to ensure that every learner gains at least basic-level English proficiency so they can hold everyday conversations with clarity and confidence. We believe that English, when taught with care and context, can empower individuals to express themselves more freely, take on leadership roles, and access better personal and professional opportunities. The program also instills life values such as punctuality, respect, and responsibility—preparing them not just for communication, but for life.
The English Program is a ten-month journey divided into five progressive levels: L-1, L-2, P-1, P-2, and Discussion. Each level is carefully designed to match the learner’s pace and current skill level. The journey begins with a focus on simple speaking, reading, and writing in English, then moves toward more interactive tasks such as real-life role plays, storytelling, debates, and open discussions. As students progress through the levels, they gain the confidence to express opinions, narrate experiences, and interact with a wider world.
Our learning doesn’t stop within four walls. Students regularly take part in outdoor classes where they observe their surroundings—whether in a park, at a metro station, or during a local tour—and practice speaking in real-time settings. These experiences make English feel less like a subject and more like a tool they can use in daily life. In one of our past projects called PenPal, students exchanged handwritten letters with peers from different countries, helping them understand global perspectives while improving their writing skills.
More than 500 learners have completed our English program to date. After graduating, many of them have taken up roles in teaching, volunteering, customer service, and more. Some students have even confidently spoken with
international visitors, strengthening their command over different accents and cultural contexts. At the end of the program, every student is awarded an appreciation letter that reflects their learning journey and personal growth.
Our primary offering is the Basic Computer Course, a 4-month program with flexible class timings. It covers essential topics such as computer fundamentals, Windows operating system, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, file and folder management, and internet basics like browsing, email, and online form filling. The course includes a final test and provides a graded certificate upon completion.
After the basic course, students can join the NIITF Program, a 3-month Windows 10-focused course held only on Sundays. This course dives deeper into Windows features, system tools, file sharing, settings, and IT basics, helping learners build a stronger foundation with hands-on practice.
For those looking to advance their skills further, we partner with Habitat Learning Center to offer specialized courses such as Advanced Diploma in Data Entry (ADDC), Basic Visual Designing (BVD), Basic Hardware & Networking (BHN), and Website Designing, including HTML, CSS, and basic design tools. These courses are designed to prepare students for job opportunities in specific technical fields.
Additionally, we provide skill-based short courses at our center, including Advanced Excel for office productivity and data analysis, Typing Classes in both Hindi and English with a focus on speed and accuracy (ideal for government exam preparation), and Internet Essentials, which covers Google tools, online shopping, job portals, resume uploads, cyber safety, and smart internet usage.
From 2023 to 2025, we enrolled 375 students—98 completed their training successfully, 52 are currently enrolled, and 45 students have secured jobs. We focus on combining practical and theoretical learning, offer affordable fees, provide Sunday classes for working individuals, and collaborate with recognized institutions to enhance our students’ career prospects.
Computer program Vision is a career-focused training initiative aimed at equipping individuals with practical digital skills that support both personal and professional growth. We offer computer training programs that prepare students for real-world jobs in fields like data entry, receptionist roles, teaching, shop management, and billing counters. Our goal is to make computer and internet literacy a part of everyone’s daily life—whether for personal use, employment, or running a business.
At Learning by Locals, we believe weekends are the perfect time for creativity, exploration, and self-expression. That’s why we conduct our special classes only on Saturdays and Sundays, designed for students aged 14 and above who wish to discover and nurture their artistic talents. These classes create a fun, creative, and supportive environment where every student gets a chance to learn, grow, and express themselves freely. Our weekend programs include Dance, Kathak, Music, Guitar, Theatre, and Art classes, each structured to provide hands-on experiences and exposure to different art forms. In Dance and Kathak, students learn rhythm, coordination, and the joy of movement while connecting with culture. In Music and Guitar classes, they explore melodies, learn to play instruments, and understand the basics of music. Theatre sessions allow students to dive into acting, storytelling, and stage performances, building confidence, communication, and teamwork. Our Art classes encourage imagination and creativity through drawing, painting, and crafts, providing a relaxing and expressive outlet.
The objective of these special classes is to offer students a creative platform where they can explore their skills, gain exposure to different art forms, and identify what truly brings them happiness. By engaging in these experiences, students not only develop their artistic abilities but also grow in confidence, self-awareness, and cultural understanding, discovering the joy of learning through the arts.
Objective of Emerge fellowship program: Emerge is a fellowship program: Our vision is to help women get jobs and become financially independent, so they can support themselves and their families. Our vision is also to make families stronger and build a better society. We want to bring peace and harmony by ending gender discrimination and treating everyone equally.
It is a 6-month fellowship program run under Learning by Locals, especially for girls aged 18 or 18 to 25. The goal of this program is to teach employability and life skills that prepare girls for basic job roles and real-life challenges.
During the program, fellows learn many practical skills like how to write emails, create a resume, use maps, book transport online (like Uber or bus/train tickets), and even how to book tickets online when visiting places like monuments. They also learn how to manage a budget and how to talk to their parents to gain permission for going outside. These activities help them experience independent travel and living without family support.
Apart from skill training, the program includes several useful sessions. Girls attend emotional well-being sessions like Adya, and take part in special girls’ sessions where they learn about their own bodies, hygiene, and personal care. They also meet external experts who share their life journeys, which helps the fellows feel inspired and learn from real experiences.
The fellowship runs six days a week, Monday to Saturday, and each student commits around five hours daily. Fellows also take part in volunteering activities at different places to gain work exposure and understand how jobs function in real environments. This hands-on experience is an important part of their learning journey.
Emerge also provides financial support. Every fellow receives a monthly stipend of ₹5000 based on their performance, which helps them manage their basic needs. This makes the program even more meaningful, as students not only learn but also earn during the fellowship.
The Emerge Fellowship began in 2020 during the lockdown, and since then, we have successfully completed 7 batches. Our 8th batch is currently running. So far, 79 girls have completed this fellowship. Out of them, 39 are now working in different places, some are pursuing professional courses, and others are actively looking for job opportunities.
Emerge is more than just a training program. It is a powerful and life-changing experience that helps young women explore the world, build confidence, and take steps toward a brighter, independent future.
